In September 2025, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) recaptured Asian Highway No. 1 from the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA). The SSPC also controls other major trade routes in Karen State, often in parallel with allied Karen armed groups. As a result, the junta currently maintains firm control over Myanmar–Thailand border trade.
