Conflict in 70% of Total Townships
(February 2021 – April 2024)
Within three years since the coup, out of a total of 330 townships in Myanmar, at least 14,317 clashes occurred in at least 233 townships, accounting for 70 percent of the total. All townships in Karen State, Chin State, Tanintharyi Region, and the Karenni area experienced armed conflict. Additionally, 34 out of 37 townships in Sagaing Region and 25 out of 28 in Mandalay Region experienced clashes. Moreover, within these conflicts, ethnic armed organizations (EAOs), People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), and allied revolutionary forces have seized up to 53 towns.
