Conflict in 70 Percent of Total Townships
(As of February 1, 2021 – June 30, 2024)
In the three years since the coup, at least 14,374 clashes have occurred across 233 out of 330 townships in Myanmar, accounting for 70 percent of the total townships. All townships in Karen State, Chin State, Tanintharyi Region, and the Karenni area experienced armed conflict. Additionally, 34 out of 37 townships in Sagaing Region and 25 out of 28 in Mandalay Region experienced clashes. Moreover, within these conflicts, ethnic armed organizations (EAOs), People’s Defense Forces(PDFs), and allied revolutionary forces have seized up to 60 towns.
