The CNF was a member of the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC), which was formed to lead political matters in Chin State. On September 30, 2021, the Chin resistance forces established the Chinland Joint Defense Committee (CJDC).

The MDY-PDF is under the chain of command of the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government. However, they operate under independent leadership in certain aspects and operations, given their geographical distance from the command areas of the military regions established by the NUG.

The SSPP signed a ceasefire agreement with the SLORC regime in 1989. In 2009, those ethnic armed groups that had ceased fighting were forced to become border guards under the Tatmadaw. Brigade 1, led by Col. Sao Pang Fa, refused, and the SSPP/SSA remained in operation as the principal Shan resistance army.

The KNU is the longest-standing Ethnic Armed Organization in Myanmar and was founded on February 5, 1947, by the Dawkalu Network, the Buddhist Karen National Association, the Karen Central Organization, and the Karen Youth Organization, which were at that time leading the Karen national movement.

The KNDF’s organizational policy was drafted on June 7, 2021, and a steering committee was formed to set KNDF policies. KNDF members include former politicians, Karenni nationalist youth activists, university students, and middle-aged people working in various sectors.

The KIC was formed on January 15, 1961, three months after the formation of the KIO. The KIA, the organization’s military wing, was formed on February 5, 1961, in Lashio, northern Shan State, by decision of the KIC.

The RCSS attempted to set up bases and to operate within territories previously controlled by the Northern Alliance, areas which were associated with the Myanmar-China border trade and which would become future grounds for China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Myanmar.

Areas under NDAA administration are also key areas for connecting projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. However, NDAA-administered areas are not included in any details in formal agreements between China and Myanmar.

The PSLF/TNLA organization initially established a political wing before establishing an armed force. The Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) was formed on January 12, 1992, in Manerplaw, the headquarters area of ​​the Karen National Union (KNU).

The MNTJP/MNDAA is centered on and represents people of the Kokang ethnicity. Founded in 1989, it was the first ethnic splinter group from the Communist Party of Burma (CPB). The MNDAA was initially led by two brothers, Peng Jiasheng (Pheung Kya-shin) and Peng Jiafu (Pheung Kya-fu). After breaking away from the CPB, they signed a ceasefire agreement with the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC).

The Bamar People's Liberation Army (BPLA) commander-in-chief, Maung Saungkha, has been an activist for freedom of expression since before the coup. He was a leading member of the committee for the revocation of Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law enacted on October 17, 2013. He also served as the executive director of Athan Myanmar.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) had been working on the establishment of an army even before the military staged the coup. Among those who led the establishment of the PLA were youth leaders of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions from Shwebo District, Sagaing Region. They embraced communism and prepared to re-establish an armed resistance based on communist ideology since early 2017.

The AA sent representatives to participate in the negotiations to sign the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) held under President Thein Sein. However, the Myanmar military stated that because the AA is a newly formed group that arose during the new government's term, it will only be permitted to participate in the peace process after disarmament.
