High Security Index Intensity in 43% of Total Townships

Since the 2021 coup, armed conflict, defined by at least one mutual shooting, has affected 221 townships, constituting 67 percent of the total. To assess the impacts of conflict in these areas, we employed the security index alongside the humanitarian crisis index and public service provision index. The security index indicates a high intensity in 141 townships, representing 43 percent of the total. Sagaing Region has the highest number of townships with a high security index intensity, totaling 30 townships, followed by Shan State with at least 24 townships experiencing high index intensity.
