As of May 10, 2024

Three years after the coup, more than 233 townships experienced clashes, each defined by at least one mutual shooting. ISP-Myanmar conducted a study to assess the security risk level in these townships using the Security Risk Index, a composite index based on the number of clashes, airstrikes, arson, and fatalities. The findings indicate that over 49 percent of the total townships, or 161 townships, faced high-intensity security risks. Sagaing Region had the most townships of high-intensity security risk, with 34 townships affected, followed by Shan State, with 24 townships.
